The national flag of Guinea-Bissau was adopted on September 24, 1973, the same day the state’s independence was declared. Created with a wide vertical red stripe at the crest edge and two horizontal equal stripes – yellow and green in the rest of the cloth. In the middle of the red stripe is a black five-pointed star as a symbol of the African continent Green depicted the vegetative wealth of nature and the hope for a happy future.
