The flag of Luxembourg has proportions of 1:2 and consists of three horizontal stripes: red, white and blue. The red stripe is at the top, the white stripe is in the middle, and the blue stripe is at the bottom. In the center of the white stripe is the coat of arms of Luxembourg, depicting a red lion’s head on a silver background. The flag was adopted on June 23, 1972 and symbolizes Luxembourg’s historical ties with the Netherlands (red and blue) and its independence (white and coat of arms).
